Practice painting for Appetite for the Arts

I had the great pleasure of being one of fifteen artists who took part in the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council’s Appetite for the Arts Canvas Madness/Battle of the Artists on August 18, 2017. I (and the other artists) had about 4-1/2 hours to begin and complete an entire painting, with the subject of our choice. I spent time during the summer photographing scenes around Port Clinton and happened upon this beautiful pink-sunset evening in July.

I spent 4 hours on a practice image to make sure I could complete this oil painting in time. At the event I arrived shortly after 4 pm and completed the final painting by 8:30 pm, in time for the 9:30 auction. The completed Canvas Madness paintings by all fifteen artists were auctioned off to raise money for the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council. Appetite for the Arts is their annual fundraiser, kicked off with the Friday night tickets-only event featuring Canvas Madness, Catawba Island Brewing beer (Hot Blonde, yes!), fantastic entertainment and lots of great art vendors.
